More teachers and principals are reacting to the change in Dothan's magnet school enrollment process.
The new system will be based on standardized test scores, grades and conduct in first through fifth grade.
Dothan city school officials say this will give more students the chance to attend a magnet school.
They say it also takes the pressure off parents who can't get to the application or make the deadline.
Students going into kindergarten or out of the school system will still be required to apply.
Heard Magnet’s Principal Peggy Maddox says getting in is just the first part.
"We have a requirement to get in, that way we know we're getting children at least average and above average. Then we have a requirement to remain. There's an academic requirement that you can't make below a c and there's a behavioral requirement that says you can't make below a b,” Maddox said.
Both Heard Magnet School and Montana Magnet School will have an open house Wednesday at 9:00 a.m. if parents are interested in getting more information.
