UPDATE - 2:30 P.M.

DOTHAN, AL -- A 45-minute power outage in downtown Dothan was caused by a bird. Dothan Police report a bird hit a transformer, knocking out power to most of the downtown area.

Nearly 30 traffic lights went offline during the outage. Dothan Police directed traffic until the lights began working again.

The power outage began just after 11 a.m. on Wednesday. Power was restored around 11:50, forcing city workers to scramble to restore power and handle traffic issues during lunchtime in the downtown area.

Dothan Utilities say the power outage was due to an equipment failure at a substation near the Civic Center.

They hope to have things fully restored within the hour.
