Police say 51-year-old Gene Patrick Finley has been charged with false reporting to a police officer.

Authorities say he called police Feb. 4 and reported his car stolen from Glass's Cocktail N Grill in Decatur.

Police say he then called OnStar to have the vehicle located.

Police say there were four people inside the vehicle when it was located.

Police say they later determined that Finley had allowed someone to borrow his car.

Police say they believe Finley reported the car stolen so OnStar could find it for him.

The Detroit-based company will use its technology to locate cars after they are reported stolen.
