MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) -- Montgomery police say a 6-year-old boy has died one day after he was found unresponsive at a swimming pool.

WSFA-TV reports that the child died at the Children's Hospital in Birmingham on Wednesday. The boy's death occurred a day after his grandmother Rosie Lee Arrington drowned at an apartment complex pool near downtown Montgomery.

Medics treated the victims at the scene on McDonough Street before both were transported to hospitals.

The 39-year-old Arrington was pronounced dead at Jackson Hospital shortly before noon on Tuesday. Police say the drowning appears to be accidental.
