OHATCHEE, Ala. (AP) - The owner of an Ohatchee company that makes gear for firefighters says it will close by June, eliminating
the jobs of 76 workers.

Mark Hamel, a spokesman for Honeywell, the plant's corporate owner, says American Firewear Inc. will begin laying off workers in
February.

The company notified county officials of the plant closing in a letter mailed Thursday.

Hamel says workers will be eligible for severance packages.

American Firewear was founded in Anniston in 1990 and later moved its operations to Ohatchee. It produces gloves, hoods and other specialized equipment used by firefighters.
