DOTHAN, AL--Now you see it, but soon you won't.

According to Houston County Commission Chairman, Mark Culver, once the county gets control of the Saints Apartments property it will most likely be demolished.

"I think it's important that we do our part in helping the northern end of downtown and this will do that," said Mark Culver.

Part of the plan calls for the fence you see behind me to be torn down and parking will be expanded.

"We're looking at enhancing our parking lot, creating some additional green space to beautify that part of downtown," said Culver.

Another part involves moving the former Veteran Affairs building from West Crawford Street.

"and also moving a building that we currently have that's unused, a modular building and move our maintenance department into that building."

Culver says relocating the county's maintenance department will open more space for other departments in the county building.

"They share a common wall with personnel hopefully by moving them out into their own building will give them some ease of access."

Asbestos abatement will begin the first week of April.

Culver says unless something changes soon, the demolition and other extensions will most likely be the plan.

The 30-day move out notice residents received ends April 5th.
