(Geneva, AL)-- There are more than 12 reported private wells are drying up in the Piney Grove Community in Geneva County. Although the wells are the responsibility of the landowners, Samson City Officials want to help.
"We are working with Geneva County, we're working with State Representatives, as well as the governor's office to find ways for a temporary and permanent fix," Samson City Mayor Clay King said.
According to King, the city is trying to obtain a state grant that will allow the city to extend waterlines out to Piney Grove. The project could cost more than 700,000 dollars and take up to eight months to complete.
Samson officials are unclear of what is causing the wells to dry out, however they plan to do an investigation. Local officials and State Representatives will address the community about this issue on Piney Grove Church on Thursday.
