No need to get rid of the family dog when the baby arrives.
A new study in the Journal Clinical and Experimental Allergy shows infants who grow up with pets are 40 to 50 percent less likely to develop allergies to those animals.
Researchers suspect early exposure to pet bacteria and allergens boost a child's immune system.
And timing is everything.
The study found that exposing kids to pets after the first year of life didn't help prevent allergies.
