Dothan, AL - Many hospitals are using a surgical patient tracking system. A local hospital says it’s been a great tool for their patients.
The Southeast Alabama Medical Center has been using a similar system for the past six years.
The technology is similar to an airport sign.
It shows what stage the patient is in at all times, pre-op, surgery, and recovery for example.
Experts say it helps provide that ease of mind for families in the waiting room.
"It's always kind of the fear of the unknown that causes anxiety in our family members. This kind of just lets them know, ok my mother or my father is here and now they're here. So anytime you can remove those question marks that kind of remove the anxiety and gives them a better experience," said Chris Holland, operating room manager.
It also allows nurses and doctors to be more efficient.
This technology doesn’t cut out on the human touch either families are updated every hour on the hour by nurses.
