UPDATE: Police Are Still Searching For Motive For Ozark Shooting

Ozark Police Chief Tony Spivey says a 12-year-old is recovering from non-life-threatening injuries after being shot in the mouth.

Chief Spivey says he his amazed the victim is still alive.

Police arrived at the Briar-Hill Court area in Ozark just before 9 o'clock last night.

Police say a 12-year-old boy was shot in the mouth with a small caliber handgun by a 15-year-old.

The 15-year-old was arrested and charged with attempted murder and possession of marijuana.

He was released to the Alabama Department of Youth Services and placed in the Southeast Alabama Diversion Center.

The victim was taken to the Dale Medical Center, police say his injuries were not life threatening,

Chief Spivey says it is unsettling children this young got their hands on a gun.

"It is very disturbing that you have people of this age and they are children they are absolutely children that would resort to this type of violence," said Chief Spivey.

Chief Spivey says the Dale County District Attorney may try the 15-year-old as an adult.

Police are still looking for the weapon involved in the shooting.

Authorities in Ozark and Dale County have confirmed that a 12 year old was shot in the mouth in Ozark.

The shooting occurred Wednesday evening in the College Street area of Ozark in Dale, County Alabama.

The 12 year old victim was allegedly shot in the mouth. He is being treated at the Dale Medical Center. Medical personnel are keeping him overnight for observation, but say that he should be released in Wednesday.

A fifteen year old male is in custody. He is allegedly responsible for the shooting and was being interviewed by authorities Wednesday night.

Ozark Police Department Chief Tony Spivey said that authorities are currently searching for the weapon, a small-caliber handgun. The names of both the victim and the alleged assailant are not being released, due to their status as minors.

Chief Spivey says that more information on the case will be released sometime on Thursday.
