The Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine is one step closer to breaking ground in Dothan.
Tuesday, the Dothan City Commission voted to re-zone a 58-acre parcel of land to a highway commercial district for the Southeast Alabama Medical Center's new medical college.
The new location would be at the corner of Cowarts and Drew roads.
City Manager, Mike West expects the move to help develop that side of town.
“The creation of the medical school on the east side of town along with the other growth that is occurring now will really set that area on fire,” says Dothan City Manager, Mike West.
The official ground breaking date has not yet been set.
