MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - State transportation officials say there
will be no temporary lane closures on Alabama's interstate highways
between noon Thursday and midnight Sunday to make holiday travel
Transportation Director Joe McInnes says the same thing will apply from Thursday, Dec. 30 through Sunday, Jan. 2 for the New Year's holiday weekend.
McInnes says the only exceptions will be if emergencies occur.
He said limiting construction during the holidays when traffic volume is higher provides safer conditions for the traveling public and for workers on the highways.
Alabama recorded 10 traffic deaths during the 78-hour Christmas
holiday travel period last year.
That was up from eight deaths the previous year.
