Dothan Downtown Redevelopment Authority called a special meeting Wednesday afternoon. They reviewed two site plans of the Saints Apartments, both of which included demolition.
However, not every member agreed with these outlines. Letetia Jackson thought this push was too soon—especially with other issues at hand.
"I don't think we are in a position to move towards asking for demolition until the outstanding issues, particularly the legal issues, of whether or not that was a valid mortgage release,” said Jackson, DDRA Treasurer.
No plans will move forward for at least two months. Once those buildings are demolished, the area will be turned into a parking lot.
Pat Thomas, DDRA Vice Chairman, said using the property as parking and green space were the decisions from the start.
Most board members agreed the Saints Apartments were nothing more than eye soars, and that without them, Dothan will appeal to prospective business.
