New Website Naming Rules for Internet

The next time you type in a website address it could look a little different.

Today the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) approved the change to allow domain names using any combination of letters and numbers, including non-Latin characters.

In past years, there have been requests for new top level domains such as dot kids, dot shop, dot NYC and even dot xxx for pornography sites.

ICANN will begin to accept applications for new domain endings in January.
