New Testing May Be in Place for Dothan City Magnet Schools

There may be a new set of requirements pertaining to entrance inside of Dothan city magnet schools.

Board members discussed this issue at the Dothan city school board meeting Monday night. Currently 5th grade magnet school students who meet academic criteria automatically move on to the 6th grade. However, a new proposal will include testing for re-ranking purposes.

"Well obviously the number of students that were accepted to the magnet school increased tremendously this year so it opens the door for a larger population of students to be able to attend the magnet schools," said Teresa Davis, the curriculum director of elementary schools.

This year more than 5,000 students were evaluated for entrance into city magnet schools. Nearly 2400 were qualified.
