BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) -- A new health clinic for the poor is opening in downtown Birmingham.
AL.com reports that a medical student group will operate the clinic on Sunday to provide care for residents of a county-run shelter.
The clinic opens Nov. 11 at the Church of the Reconciler. It will be managed and run by University of Alabama-Birmingham medical students as part of the Equal Access Birmingham program. The clinic is overseen by UAB doctors.
EAC president and medical student Richard Cockrum said the group's goal is to care for patients and train doctors to work in underserved communities.
