Nearly All of Wiregrass Area Under Wind Advisory Today

The National Weather Service office in Tallahassee has placed much of the WTVY viewing area under a Wind Advisory today.

Forecasters with the local Weather Service office have issued a Wind Advisory that runs from 9 o’clock Central Time until 6 o’clock this evening.

The Wind Advisory includes, but is not limited to the following communities: Enterprise, Ozark, Fort Rucker, Daleville, Headland, Abbeville, Geneva, Hartford, Samson, Slocomb, Malvern, Taylor, Ashford, Dothan, Kinsey, Cowarts, Webb, Cottonwood, Rehobeth, Georgetown, Fort Gaines, Cuthbert, Shellman, Arlington, Morgan, Edison, Leary, Dawson, Albany, Leesburg, Smithville, Sylvester, Ashburn, Tifton, Fitzgerald, Ocilla, Douglasville, Blakely, Colquitt, Newton, Camilla, and Pelham.

These winds will be strongest from late morning through the mid-afternoon.

There could be a sustained breeze of 20 to 25 miles per hour during this timeframe, with gusts ranging from 30 to 40 miles per hour at times.

Forecasters warn that “winds of this strength can make driving high profile vehicles difficult. They can also knock over unsecured outdoor items…and blow down small tree limbs or newly planted shrubs.”

Pike County, under the jurisdiction of the Weather Service office out of Birmingham, is also under a Wind Advisory that lasts from 10 o’clock Central through 7 o’clock central and includes the cities of Troy, Brundidge, and Goshen—as well as much of north and central portions of Alabama.
