National Peanut Festival Starts Off Sweet

Jaycie Walker of Headland is the grand prize teen winner for this years recipe contest with her "Awesome P-nut Butter" cake.

Barbara Baxley of Midland City takes home the adult grand prize with her winning batch of "P-nut Butter Taffy Apple" cookies.

Event organizers say more than 100 contestants participated in this year's contest.

“We have them from really young all the way up to the young at heart so it is always interesting. Some of them do this every year this is like a ritual with them that they like to come out and participate,” said Teresa Wilson, Chairman of the Peanut Festival Recipe Contest.

The grand prize winners received more than $2,000 dollars in prizes.
