The Dothan Airport Authority says three new companies have showed interest in the PEMCO facility in the past month.

And this is good news for the airport and current PEMCO employees.

"We are just talking to people right now. We have ongoing dialogs with at least three companies right now that are good prospects, and we will just see where that leads and that doesn’t mean that we will get any of these three companies but I’m feeling pretty optimistic." Airport director Art Morris said.

PEMCO filed for bankruptcy in March and is set to close in the next couple of months.
Airport officials are still in the process of looking for a new company that will pick up right where PEMCO will leave off.

“By definition PEMCO was an m-r-o, maintenance rehab overhaul facility at least one of the companies we are talking with is an m-r-o.” Morris said.

Finding a company that deals with aircrafts is important to Morris.
He believes the people who will be losing their job with PEMCO, can possibly work at the new company.

“That’s number one is to keep the jobs going in Dothan and don’t let these skilled workers have to move and go somewhere else.” Morris said.

And as more inquiries are coming in about PEMCO, the airport as a whole is doing well too.

“There are certain flights during the day that have been really full, between 90 and one hundred percent full so.” Airport Marketing Director Jennifer Doherty said.

For the past two years the airport has seen month to month passenger increases.
And a stable airport makes candidates more likely to apply for the PEMCO opening.
Morris says he is willing to split up the space for multiple companies to come to the facility.
But wants to make sure it’s the right fit for the airport.

MRO means Maintenance,Repair and Overhaul. Though some of the People working there could use Rehab.
