Dothan, AL - Tornado warnings and severe thunderstorms could ruin Pegge Thompson's day.
"I'm coming down to spend Christmas with my grandchildren," said Thompson.
According to TripAdvisor, she is among the 45 percent of Americans travelling this holiday season. Flights out of the Dothan Regional Airport are full. With more people traveling and crazy weather throughout the country. There are more chances for some problems.
"Usually the flight down here is really, really good, but I had some problems out of Kansas City. I had to spend the night in Atlanta," said Thompson.
Of those planning to travel this holiday season at least 42 percent are already expecting to be stressed out. There are a few steps you can take to ease those frustrations. Like arriving at least an hour before your flight, and be checked in no later than 30 minutes prior to takeoff.
"A lot of people think they can get away with cheating on that just a little bit, but we strongly urge you not to do that. If you want to get to your destination on time, it's important that you get checked in early and know that you've got that boarding pass to get on that flight," said Art Morris, Dothan Regional Airport Director.
"Get to the airport early. Really early because it's crowded, and it takes a lot of time to get through. I got there 3 hours early, and I just made it," added Thompson.
Also, the biggest hold up at security is travelers being unprepared with liquids, gels or aerosols.
3 point 4 ounces is the maximum amount of liquid you can bring in your carry on, and any liquid should be put in a plastic bag and taken out when you go through security.
If you're bringing gifts in your carry-on, officials recommend NOT wrapping them in case they need to be checked for safety reasons.
"Everybody was really nice, and I think sometimes people are frustrated. Just take a deep breath and go on," said Thompson.
In addition to coats and Christmas gifts, you should definitely pack your patience.
