Modernized Aircraft Made at Sikorsky

With applause and a handshake Sikorsky aircraft unveiled it's first S-61T airframe which has been remodeled and structurally modernized.

"The airframe that we are presenting for delivery today started its life forty five years ago and over the last one hundred and fourteen days has undergone repair and over haul," says General Manager Jason Lambert.

Repairs employees feel special to be apart of.
Some described the experience of working on the helicopter. As simply…

"Awesome, it's awesome that we got something that some of us have never experienced this type of work before," says William Nialis.

With that type of work the aircraft could one day be assigned to diplomatic services in Afghanistan.
"It will be used to transport dignitaries and personnel all over in austere places," says Program Director John Johnson.

And with an aircraft this large, Sikorsky officials say the economic impact is huge.

"I think it's huge for the facility here and for the community here is troy and in pike county. We have 640 employees on our campus here in troy and 100 of those 640 are now employed on the s-61t program," says Jason Lambert.

And the flying machine is equipped with state of the art technology.

"Electrical systems, fuel systems, hydraulic systems,” says Jason Lambert.

A single plane that's bringing dozens of jobs to Troy.

"That space enabled us to go out and win work such as the s-61t contract, to create jobs here in troy for this program," says Jason Lambert.

A program that’s keeping Sikorsky aircraft employees flying high.
Next the plane will go to Pennsylvania where the interior structure will be built.
