(DOTHAN, AL.)- The Wiregrass Area’s 7th Annual Memorial Day Ceremony will be held at Sunset Memorial Park Monday, May 27. Lunch will be served at 1 p.m. and the ceremony begins at 2:30 p.m. featuring guest speaker Retired Colonel Bob Bunting, former Chief of Staff at Fort Rucker.
Mayor Mike Schmitz will serve as the Memorial Day Ceremony emcee and lead the ceremony at 2:30 p.m., for the 3 p.m. national moment of silence. This annual ceremony honors our military heroes and the sacrifices they have made for our freedom. The event will feature a flower laying ceremony, live music by RTFO, lunch and appearances by the Fort Rucker Honor Guard and the Patriot Guard Riders. This year, the Field of Remembrance will be added featuring 500 crosses representing military lives lost.
“Memorial Day is a very special day to us as we hold our fallen military heroes in the highest regard. We want to share this time with the families in the Wiregrass Area. It's truly a solemn event to witness and helps us remember that we live in the greatest country in the world,” Sunset Memorial Park Funeral Director Robert Byrd said.
