Melinda McClendon Takes Office

Houston county residents in District 4 officially have a new commissioner.

She's filling the seat of late commissioner Phil Forrester.

McClendon said Wednesday's swearing in is symbolic because it would have been Forrester's 78th birthday.

She says her first goal is to get informed.

"The first thing I need to get done is shut my mouth and listen. I need to learn I'm here to learn and get a good feel for what's going on out in the district," said District 4 Melinda McClendon.

McClendon said she's also ready to tackle the county's budget.
