Birmingham AL --- The McWilliams Kountry Mart at 131 Hwy 21 South in McWilliams Alabama is the second Village Post Office (VPO) in the state.
It’s already open for business; owner Yolanda Jackson, along with postal officials, invite the public to the grand opening at 1 pm on Thursday, June 14.
County Commissioner John Moten and Probate Judge Boggan will be among special guests.
A VPO provides access to postal products and services in locations where postal customers already frequent, such as neighborhood retail stores and pharmacies. The McWilliams VPO will sell the most frequently-used products and services, including Forever stamps and Prepaid Priority Mail Flat Rate boxes and envelopes.
By being located at businesses and other places that customers already frequent, the VPO provides a time-saving convenience, and in most cases, longer hours of operation.
The Postal Service considers Village Post Offices in locations where a community has no existing Post Office or has an office that will be discontinued.
Each VPO retains the town’s name and ZIP Code.
