WASHINGTON, D.C. – Rep. Martha Roby (R-AL) today responded to President Obama’s announcement of new legislative proposals and executive orders aimed at creating stricter federal gun control policies.

“My staff and I are carefully reviewing the details of the President’s proposals,” Rep. Roby said. “As a Member of the House Committee on Education and the Workforce, I look forward to engaging in hearings devoted to finding ways to ensure schools are safe for students.

“I’m a gun owner myself, and I strongly value the rights guaranteed in the Second Amendment. The overwhelming majority of gun owners are law-abiding citizens who strictly follow all applicable state and local regulations. I will oppose any effort to take away the rights of law-abiding American citizens to own firearms.”
