BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - An Etowah County man convicted on
charges of receiving and possessing child pornography has been
sentenced to six and a half years in prison.
Phillip Ross Simmons was convicted in June on charges that he
received pornographic images of children online from February 2008
until February 2009 and has remained in custody since the guilty
verdict. The 57-year-old Altoona man was sentenced Wednesday and
must also serve supervised release for the rest of his life after
completing his prison term.
Simmons was also ordered not to have any unsupervised contact
with children and to register as a sex offender.
Federal prosecutors say Simmons had images that included
children as young as 8 or 9 years old.
