PORT CHARLOTTE, Florida A Port Charlotte man has been sentenced to life in prison for killing his estranged wife.

A Charlotte County judge sentenced 52-year-old Scott Huss Wednesday. He was convicted of second-degree murder in December.

Authorities say Huss stabbed his wife, Yana, 11 times at her home in 2007. He then slashed her throat so violently that she was nearly decapitated. His stepson, then-8-year-old Peter, witnessed the crime and still had blood on his shirt when Huss dropped the boy off at his grandmother's home.

Huss has maintained his innocence, claiming the Russian mafia murdered the woman.
