Man Charged with Ramming Ala. Trooper's Car

PHENIX CITY, Ala. (AP) - A man has been charged with attempted
murder after authorities say he rammed a state trooper's cruiser in
Russell County.

Alabama Department of Public Safety spokesman Sgt. Gary McWaters
says 33-year-old Richard William Curtician was charged Monday after
he rammed a the cruiser with the car he was driving.

Officials say troopers stopped a Ford Mustang for a traffic
violation and the driver, 32-year-old James Wesley Mabry, was
charged with DUI. They say Curtician was a passenger.

Officials say the trooper was taking Mabry to jail when his
cruiser was struck from behind by Curtician, who was driving the
Mustang.

The trooper and Mabry were treated at a hospital and released.

Curtician was transported to the Columbus (Ga.) Regional
Healthcare System and was placed in the Intensive Care Unit.
