Magnet School Forum

Emotions ran high tonight at Carver Magnet School as the Dothan City School board let parents have the floor.

The board is proposing a new curriculum that would eliminate two magnet schools, Girard and Beverlye.

Officials say it needs to happen to give middle school students a fair playing field.

Right now, honor courses aren't offered at Honeysuckle Middle School or Girard.

Parents are divided on what to do, but Dothan city school superintendant Tim Wilder says it wouldn't make sense to keep the title "magnet" on a school and add honors course to another.

The next meeting will take place March 4th at Girard Middle School.

Another meeting will happen at Beverlye March 11th and the April 8th meeting will be at Honeysuckle.
