One animal rescue in Daleville needs your help adopting their “Lil’ Tykes”, taking care of their health needs, and making repairs to their rescue home.
Foxy is a 5-year-old Chihuahua mix.
“Foxy showed up heartworm positive,” says Lil’ Tyke’s operator April Gales.
That’s why she’s been at the rescue for about three years, unadopted.
“It’s harder to get them adopted because people are afraid of it,” says Gales.
April Gales has been running the Lil’ Tykes Animal Rescue for about nine years and says she’s not giving up on the around hundred dogs looking for a forever home.
“My heart cries for these kids. I know there’s a lot of people out here that are hungry and they’re homeless but we can’t forget the creatures that we help create in this society. They are being dumped right and left,” says Gales.
But she says expenses are adding up.
“Our vet expenses can hit up to 15 and 20,000 dollars a year,” says Gales, “Definitely with the economy the way it is, it’s hard and we’re trying to improve the place.”
She says these little guys would like this area to be cemented so they can stay healthier and happier during their stay here.
“We want to be able to take and put cement this area right in here so that way they’re on cement and it’s easier to keep clean, easier to sterilize if there’s ever any problems,” says Gales.
She says it’d be a perfect place to keep sick or aging dogs separated from the younger group.
They also need help repairing a leaking roof.
If you can donate money or time and expertise you’re asked to give them a call.
