Barbershops pop up all over Dothan, and Chris Doss, from Healthy You, Inc., is putting dads in chairs.
“The old talk to the young. The young talk to the old. We talk about politics. We talk about family, and true conversations happen right here at our barbershops,” said Doss.
He is raising awareness for men to model a healthy lifestyle. The event is part of a national campaign through President Barack Obama’s Fatherhood Initiative, Fatherhood Buzz. Barbers said their shops are the right place to get people on board.
“This is where men can talk, where they feel comfortable and say, everybody has their own opinions, and share with each other their opinions,” said Jeremy Hollis, a barber at Squirt and Louie's Perfect Cuts in Dothan.
Doss acknowledged there are glitches with the Affordable Health Care act. Regardless, he said people should take advantage of the new law because it gives them a better opportunity to visit the doctor’s office.
“It brings on a lot about where we're going, how long we want to live, do we care enough to take care of our bodies to be able to do great things,” said Morris Lewis, a Dothan resident.
Barbers agreed, if you care enough, children will follow suit.
Doss will be promoting healthy, active fatherhood leadership again on Saturday, November 16th. The four shops participating are Styles Unlimited, Squirt and Louie's Perfect Cuts, DJ's Classic Cuts and His and Hers Barber and Beauty--all of which are in Dothan.
