Enterprise, AL - Wiregrass leaders are doing what they can to protect Fort Rucker during the next BRAC, Base Realignment and Closure round.
Fort Rucker is the home of Army Aviation where many pilots are trained.
There's more than 32,000 square miles of aircraft training at Fort Rucker.
BRAC was slated for 2013, but Enterprise Mayor Kenneth Boswell says it could be postponed until 2015.
However, Enterprise leaders aren't waiting to voice their support for the army post.
"We're doing our homework right now. We're not waiting till the last minute. We're doing the necessary things to protect Fort Rucker, and make sure our word is heard in Washington DC," said Boswell.
Up to 570,000 army jobs are said to be lost in the next round of BRAC. Six hundred of those could be in Alabama.
