Country Crossing news topped headlines in 2010 and there's no doubt it's going to be another hot topic this year.
Many are speculating bingo will be back in Dothan in early 2011.
All day I’ve been trying to reach country crossing representatives, but so far...no one is available for comment...
But, if you put the pieces together, it looks as though country crossing directors are preparing to reopen the facilities' doors.
If you drive by country crossing, there's still no sign of life.
The parking lot is empty and barricaded by cones and tape.
But...Their website tells a different story.
The heading, "reopening 2011" stretches across the top of the page.
Then, if you click on the employment tab, nearly 40 open positions are posted; all made available December 31st, 2010.
If that's not enough evidence, country crossing's developer, Ronnie Gilley, has this status posted on his personal facebook page.
"I promise with every breath i have inside me, we shall be brave and courageous as we make history and truly bring an equitable distribution of wealth and opportunity to the wiregrass region of our state! Jobs, jobs, and jobs are coming my friends!"
Further, Country Crossing's attorney, Sam Cherry seemed optimistic about the bingo facilities future during a press conference Thursday.
Responding to Governor-Elect Robert Bentley’s plan to turn over bingo to Attorney General-elect Luther Strange.
"I don't know what his stance is. I think his stance is that he wants to enforce the law and the mere fact that he says I want to enforce the law is very welcome news for us. The law works based upon the law and if we function within the law and if we're compliant with the law then we expect to be then we expect to be able to open back up,” said Cherry.
Keep in mind however, last week after Bentley made his bingo announcement, he made one point very clear.
He said his statement was not intended to signal bingo hall operator’s permission to reopen.
News 4 is efforting to get an official comment on a re-opening date.
