Krispy Kreme hit by Tuscaloosa tornado rebuilding

An iconic business severely damaged by a tornado that ripped through Tuscaloosa is rebuilding.

Tuscaloosa's city government has announced that the Krispy Kreme store selling coffee and hot doughnuts on McFarland Boulevard received its building permit last month. WBMA-TV reports that the business plans to break ground Friday.

Officials expect the store's "Hot Now" sign will be flashing again by June.

The store was one of many damaged when a tornado ripped through Tuscaloosa on April 27. The storm flattened more than 10 percent of the city's structures and killed more than 50 people.
