Dothan's new district three commissioner took his oath of office Tuesday.

Albert Kirkland polled his constituents about the proposed property tax increase before entering the office.

More than 96-percent said no to allow a vote, and that prompted Kirkland to vote against the referendum that proposed property tax increase.

“I hope people don't get the wrong idea about the vote today,” Kirkland said. “I love the city of Dothan. My constituents just asked me not to put this on the referendum for the school tax."

“I’m excited to be here.”

Kirkland replaces the seat formerly held by current state representative Paul Lee.

MR.Kirkland did what he should have done. He talked to the people and did what the people wanted. Maybe some of the other commissioner should take notes!! They want to waste time and money that the city could put to the schools and the library!!!!!
