MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) -- Jimmy Lamar Killingsworth Jr. has for the second time been convicted of capital murder in the 2004 attack on a Bibb County couple.

Killingsworth pleaded guilty to capital murder and the guilty verdict was affirmed by a Bibb County jury. He was then sentenced to life in prison without parole. By pleading guilty he was able to escape the death penalty.

Killingsworth was first convicted in 2006 for killing Steven C. Spears and viciously attacking and injuring his wife, Monica Spears, by shooting into their vehicle. The Alabama Supreme Court granted him a new trial because of an issue with a juror at the first trial.

Troy Connell of Chilton County was previously convicted for capital murder and assault in the attack and is serving a sentence of life without parole.
