OPELIKA, Ala. (AP) - Jury selection is entering a second day for the capital murder trial of a man accused of kidnapping and killing an Auburn University student from Georgia.
Defense and prosecuting attorneys began questioning more than 130 potential jurors Monday in Opelika for the trial of Courtney Lockhart. Circuit Judge Jacob Walker scheduled the questioning to continue all day Tuesday and wrap up Wednesday morning.
Lockhart is accused of killing an 18-year-old freshman, Lauren Burk of Marietta, Ga., in 2008.
Lockhart is an Army veteran of the Iraq war. His attorneys have questioned potential witnesses about post-traumatic stress syndrome
and their views about how the military treats it.
The judge has set aside two weeks for the trial.
