Judge Sentences Man to Life in Quadruple Slaying

BESSEMER, Ala. (AP) -Circuit Judge Mac Parsons followed the recommendation of jurors in sentencing 26-year-old Scott Lamar Abbott to life in prison.

Relatives of some of the victims urged Parsons Parsons to show no
leniency and to override the jury's recommendation and sentence
Abbott to death by lethal injection.

Wearing a red jail uniform, Abbott was in handcuffs and ankle
shackles as he listened to the judge's sentence.

The large basement courtroom was full with friends and relatives of the victims.

Under Alabama law, jurors recommend a sentence of either life or
death in capital cases, but the final decision is up to the judge.
