The Houston County Jobs Task Force, Dothan Area Chamber of Commerce, City of Dothan , Dothan Area Career Center , and the Alfred Saliba Family Services Center are hosting a Community Job Fair Tuesday, October 19th from 1 to 4 p.m. in the Dothan Civic Center-126 North Saint Andrews Street.
Area business and industry representatives will be accepting applications and resumes or providing information about employment opportunities.
Due to previous successes, this will be the 14th Community Job Fair.
While 141 attended the first Job Fair in the spring of 1998, the number of people seeking employment opportunities has increased to over 2000 in attendance at previous events.
Out of those who have attended, many have found lasting employment. Participating employers have commented on their successes in finding a broad range of prospective employees at this event.
The Community Job Fair began as a low-key project for the Alfred Saliba Family Services Center to help place local residents in entry-level positions.
Because the initial event drew such strong participation, partnerships were eventually developed with the Houston County Jobs Task Force and The Dothan Area Chamber of Commerce to better coordinate a Community Job Fair that is open to include professional as well as entry-level positions.
Approximately 60 employers are planning on participating. Some of the local businesses that will be represented at the Community Job Fair include Farley Nuclear Plant, Coco Cola Enterprises, Vantage Staffing, The United States Military Forces, Lowe’s Home Improvement Warehouse, Flowers Hospital, Southeast Alabama Medical Center, PEMCO World Air Services, H & R Block, Spectra Care Systems, Home Instead Senior Care, Alabama Department of Rehabilitation, Services, Social Security Administration, Cook’s Saw Manufacturing, Vantage Sourcing, Comcast Cable, Purdue Farms, Alabama Department of Corrections, Mariana Federal Corrections Institute, Red Lobster, Regions Bank, Extendicare Health Facility, AFLAC, Offshore Marine Consultants & Recruiters, Tyndall Federal Credit Union, LBA Hospitality, SEARDP-Senior Employment, Laurel Oaks Behavioral Health Center, as well as several local staffing agencies and temporary personnel employers. Wallace Community College and Troy State University Dothan will also have representatives on hand to discuss career opportunities.
A Job Fair Pre-Employment Forum will be held prior to the Community Job Fair from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 a.m.
A panel of professionals will share basic hiring tips and advise on “How To Use A Job Fair To Get A Job”.
Those wishing to attend should arrive at the job fair early. The forum will be 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.
