The Houston County Health Department has plans for World Aids Day on Wednesday.
The entire observance is designed to raise awareness about the disease.
An inter-faith ceremony will be held at the Health Department from 11:30 am until 1:00 pm.
The free event will feature speakers from area churches; there will be poetry, and teen groups speaking on how to prevent infections.
"Every 9 and a half minutes we have a new infection. HIV and Aids is not going away we're entering our 30th year of this epidemic,” said Delia Reynolds, HIV/AIDS Coordinator Public Health Area 10.
Reynolds adds nearly 56,000 people are newly-infected with the disease every year.
The Health Department offers free HIV testing Monday through Friday.
