Rain...Rain...Go away...It's what a lot of Wiregrass residents are hoping for.
But since we can't control the weather and most of the flooding it's been causing.
Officials say making sure your home is prepared for these kinds of conditions is key.
Its important to know what precautions to take but needing to know how long you have before needing to evacuate is just as important.
According to the Dothan-Houston County Emergency Management Agency there are different kinds of flooding, such as flash floods, which are very common in our area.
They say its crucial to plan ahead so if you are caught in that situation, you will know what to do.
Long term solutions can be a bit more pricey but can save you the headache in the long run.
"There's a lot of ways you can prevent flooding and some of it is very expensive, you may have to have somebody come in and look at your elevations and you may have to route waters away from it but at the same time you don't want to route that water to your neighbors property, " says Dothan-Houston County EMA Director Steve Carlisle.
Another important part of flood preparedness...Having an evacuation plan. Knowing where you are going to go before it happens can save your life.
"Have a place to go. If it looks like your place is going to flood, don't wait till it floods, you got to be able to get out, " says Carlisle.
EMA officials also recommend flood insurance even if you do not live in a flood prone area.
Also look out for flood watch's which mean flooding can occur in 6 hours. And flood warnings, which mean flooding is approaching and you should take shelter.
