Drive down Main Street and you might spot the Dothan Opera House.

Just don't catch it from the wrong side.

Planning Director for the City of Dothan Todd Mcdonald said, “The old city jail building was right up against it.”

That part of the building was removed and left scarring. Some want it covered up.

Commissioner Jansen Tidmore said, “The friends of the Opera House came together and want to put a set of murals and paintings on the side of the Opera House to depict some of the historic events that have happened in that building.”

Friends of the Opera House wouldn't speak to us on camera, but their vote didn't pass.

Commissioners say the Opera House hasn't been going downhill at all.

Tidmore said, “The current condition of the Opera House has improved over the last few years.”

Still both agree something needs to happen to the side of the building.

Mcdonald said, “I really thought there would be some discussion about getting more proactive about making those repairs to side of the building.”

A piece of history with a future that's up in the air.
