Heavy rain is impacting local cotton farmers.

The Alabama Cooperative Extension System says cotton yields are about half of what they should be.

The agency says quality is also off.

The Wiregrass averages 50 to 55 inches of rain each year.

By September however, much of the area had gotten 80 or more.
