Alabama Governor Says No November Special Session for Jefferson

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) -- Gov. Robert Bentley says there won't be a special session of the Legislature in November to address Jefferson County's $3 billion sewer debt crisis.

Bentley said there's still a lot to be done before a special session become feasible, including having the Jefferson County Commission decide whether it will sign a contract with creditors for the county's sewer projects.

Bentley had raised the possibility of a November special session a few weeks ago when commissioners and creditors reached a conceptual agreement, but the two sides have yet to sign a contract. Bentley said that makes a November special session out of the question.

Bentley said he won't waste taxpayers' money on a special session unless the Jefferson County Commission and the county's legislative delegation have everything worked out.
