Christmas time is almost here and if you're starting your Holiday shopping early, there's a few more items you may want to add to the list.
"Non-perishables and frozen turkeys." Items that will help ensure every family has a great meal to unwrap this Holiday season.
"We ask people to donate whatever you would normally like to see on your holiday table." No matter how large or how small those items are.
"The main things are we need stuffing, we need canned cranberry sauce, we need canned vegetables, any kind of bread items, dessert mixes, pie shells, maybe pubdding mixes. ..things that you would normally stock up your pantry for for Thanksgiving or for Christmas, just purchase and extra one maybe so that you can drop it in a food bank bin."
But it goes further than just giving...there's other ways you can get involved.
"They make bags of groceries for the needy people that usually don't get groceries because it's hard to get to them, they don't have transportation and so a lot of times during the holidays we have people volunteering to deliver food."
When it comes down to it, volunteering is the best way to help out the Wiregrass Area Food Bank. It only takes a few minutes of your time but it goes a long way in stocking these shelves for the Holidays.
"Get your family involved...get the people close to you involved...and when you're doing that, you'll make a difference in everyone's life." A difference that has a lasting impact.
"How else are they gonna get it without us volunteering and helping other people eat, so it's very important to have volunteerism."
Volunteerism that Henderson says is always needed...especially at this time of year.
