31 students from Girard Elementary School are already having a merry Christmas.
On Thursday morning, Academy Sports surprised a group of students with bikes. Girard Elementary school was randomly selected to get the donation, but the students were selected based on their grades, attendance and good citizenship.
Parents were given a heads-up about the gift, but they were still humbled by the experience.
“It is a blessing, god put in somebody's heart to do this for all the kids in the school and I think it is great and a blessing,” said Ana Jasso, the mother of a boy who received a bike.
School staff member say that the gifts could not come at a better time.
“If we can give them something and make their day a little bit brighter and with it being Christmas and with the economy being what it is many of our children wouldn't receive a bike, they wouldn't receive a gift of this magnitude,” explained Glenda Sanders, Principal Girard Elementary School.
In addition to bringing holiday spirit to the children, the bikes are also an incentive for students to be on their best behavior.
