The Felines Under Rescue Organization, which helps to reduce the number of stray animals in the wiregrass got a little help from the community.
Saturday, they held their spring Furfest.
An event that raised thousands of dollars to help the organization perform low cost spay and neuters

“We raised about 3000 dollars.” FUR co-founder Barbara Seaman said.

An amount that "F.U.R" founders are thankful for.

“By doing this it keeps the animals out of the shelter, because a lot of people would dump their animals of their litters at the Dothan City pound if they couldn’t afford to get them fixed.” Seaman said.

Since the clinic opened in 2009, F.U.R has spent more than 99 thousand dollars on spays and neuters.
And in the first three months of this year, they have fixed almost 500 cats and dogs.

“I would rather see a healthy animal spayed and released and being taken care by care takers then be euthanized.” FUR co-founder Cindy Hudson said.

She says House Bill 188 which is set to go before the senate, will help keep spay and neuter clinics like their around, to continue to keep the stray population low.

“Our goal is to one day ride through Alabama and see no road kill or no homeless animals along the roadside.” Seaman said.

The Wiregrass Spay and Neuter Alliance clinic is the only one of its kind in the area.
They run completely off donations.
