AUBURN, Ala. (AP) -- A Montgomery man says he's not guilty in a shooting that killed two one-time Auburn University football players and a third man in June. Desmonte Leonard entered the plea in Lee County on Thursday. A judge scheduled a bond hearing for the 22-year-old Leonard for Nov. 14.

OPELIKA, Ala. (AP) -- A University of Alabama fan accused of poisoning Auburn University's landmark oak trees in a fit of football rivalry is voluntarily surrendering himself into custody for psychiatric testing. The move means Harvey Updyke's trial, set to begin next week, will almost certainly be postponed.

NEW ORLEANS (AP) -- A federal judge gave his final approval to a $42.6 million class-action settlement between companies that made and installed government-issued trailers after hurricanes in 2005 and Gulf Coast storm victims who claim they were exposed to hazardous fumes while living in the shelters.

DOTHAN, Ala. (AP) -- A spokesman for Alabama's welfare agency says a worker couldn't have stopped the abduction of a 15-year-old girl from a medical office in Dothan. Barry Spear of the Alabama Department of Human Resources said Thursday child welfare workers don't carry guns and aren't trained to fight off would-be threats to children.
