MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) -- Montgomery was the final stop on a bus tour of Alabama and Mississippi aimed at keeping the 1965 Voting Rights intact.

Charles Steele, leader of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, spoke Wednesday to members of a half-dozen groups that make up the National Coalition to Save Section 5. He was joined by Sens. Pricilla Dunn, Hank Sanders and Reps. Thad McClammy and Laura Hall.

The U.S. Supreme Court is considering a challenge from Shelby County looking to void a requirement for elections laws in 16 states to be approved by the Justice Department. Those states have a history of discrimination at the polls.

During the two-day bus trip, demonstrators visited numerous places where civil rights workers were killed during the 1960s.
