Fort Rucker is celebrating.

The community was honored by the Department of Defense and the US Army for the first-time ever.

The post was named the best community in the DoD and Army. Officials credit their success to hardworking employees and area elected officials.

“When I heard all names of all the folks getting named you feel like a father who just had a child I was very proud today of all the members of our team. It wasn't just Fort Rucker, I consider it the wiregrass at large is part of our team, we can't do it without the whole wiregrass,” explained Col. Stuart McRae, Garrison Commander on Fort Rucker.

Fort Rucker also presented more than 160 community members with awards for their hard work and dedication.
